The San Francisco Mixtape Society gets together four times a year at the Make-Out Room. A different mix theme is selected for each meeting and everyone who shows up brings a mix tape or CD they've made about the theme. The mixes are then raffled off and everybody goes home with someone else's mix. Attendees stick a list of the songs on their mix onto the wall and the audience votes for their favorite track list, and the SFMTS judges also award prizes for the best cover artwork and best mix. I attended the last two meetings, "Guilty Pleasures" and "Lemonade Stand," and submitted these two mixes, which you can find the track listings for here
My mix for Guilty Pleasures won the audience favorite award, and my Lemonade mix won the judges award for best mix, which landed me a three hour guest DJ spot on radio station KUSF with DJs Luise and Brian, along with SFMTS organizers Ashley and Annie
KUSF archived part of the show, you can listen to an mp3 of the second hour of the show here and the third hour here. Later on we were mentioned in The New York Times (there is a longer version of the article here).
